The college of Bordeaux is a good dynamic and accountable college that cares in regards to the well-being of its workers. Becoming a member of us means working in a privileged setting inside a very numerous and open skilled group, benefiting from welcome and inclusion schemes, coaching and inside mobility. It means taking part in an instructional, scientific and human journey. It means committing to assembly the challenges of the twenty first century.
Be part of the Oceanic and Continental Environments and Palaeoenvironments (EPOC) – laboratory of the College of Bordeaux!
This laboratory is a Joint Analysis Unit underneath the joint supervision of the College of Bordeaux, the CNRS, Bordeaux INP and the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes.
EPOC is a multidisciplinary UMR growing a robust and acknowledged experience in ecotoxicology, ecology, biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry, sedimentology, paleoclimatology, coastal oceanography, marine geosciences.
As a part of the undertaking Pliocene Hominin Dispersal to southern Africa: Selection or Likelihood? (PLIODIS) we’re recruiting a Submit-Doctoral Researcher W/M whose work will focus on new hydroclimatic reconstructions in Africa, integration of information and numerical fashions of local weather and evolution of hominids.
This undertaking, funded by the European Analysis Council (ERC), goals to determine a hyperlink between local weather and environmental modifications and the evolution of hominid populations.
Votre mission
The undertaking will check a number of hypotheses: that early hominin ranges in East Africa expanded and contracted with altering moist and dry phases, that shifts in dispersal corridors led to intermittent gene movement between East African and South African populations, and that tectonic modifications finally turned the Zambezi River into a big barrier, prompting South African hominins to adapt to distinct ecological niches.
Your mission will include finishing up geochemical analyses on marine sediment cores with a view to reconstruct the variations of the previous hydrological cycle in Africa.
These reconstructions might be in contrast and built-in with numerical simulations of previous local weather (final thousands and thousands of years) and a hyperlink might be established with the dynamics of historic populations of Hominids.
# Geochemical analyses in marine sediment cores
• On foraminiferous (d18Oc measurements)
• On n-alkanes (dD measurements)
• You compile the outcomes
# Local weather modelling
• You carry out transient simulations over 3 million years due to the iLOVECLIM numerical mannequin
• You evaluate the fashions with the palaeoclimatic information accessible
# Valorization of outcomes
• You combine local weather and environmental modifications with the evolution of Hominids in Africa
• You current your outcomes to the crew and at seminars
Vos atouts / Vos skills
Holder of a PhD in Local weather Sciences, you’ve confirmed information of paleoclimate information and have an curiosity in hominid evolution.
