Guatemala’s president has declared a state of emergency after gangs attacked police throughout the capital.
At the least seven officers have been killed.
The assaults befell whereas safety forces stormed three prisons that had been seized by inmates, who took dozens of individuals hostage.
The federal government says it is now regained management of all three jails.
