Re: “Religion is in decline, but spirituality isn’t. This may be the reason” [June 1, Opinion]:
The Rev. Dave Brown surmises that persons are not attending church companies as a result of “some religion communities really feel just like the Democratic or Republican Occasion at prayer with political and social justice points on the heart of group life.”
I’ve a distinct perspective. I’m ready for a homily that proclaims what Christianity is and what it’s not.
Politics and Christianity usually intersect. After they do we have to separate them. Love is the cornerstone of our Gospel, but cruelty, greed and racism masquerade as Christianity and conceal behind politics. Opinions opposite to Christianity can disguise within the shelter of politics as a result of nobody desires to be accused of talking politically from the pulpit.
I’d cheer if I heard a homily that unapologetically decried gun violence, or known as to account those that discuss with immigrants as “vermin,” or challenged those that defend the sanctity of life but assist the loss of life penalty.
Maybe individuals flip from faith not as a result of it’s too political however as a result of we aren’t keen to defend Gospel values once they intersect with generally tolerated political rhetoric regardless of how anti-Christian it’s.
