Israel is searching for safety ensures for residents to return to villages and cities alongside the border with Lebanon.
Israeli Protection Minister Yoav Gallant has proposed the institution of a secure zone alongside the border, coupled with different safety measures. Whereas he didn’t present detailed data, Israeli sources recommend the involvement of French troops on the Lebanese facet and American troopers on the Israeli facet of the border to make sure safety.
The concept is that France and America would provide safety assurances. This proposal bears resemblance to Israel’s 2006 stance over the last battle with Hezbollah when it sought the deployment of worldwide forces with a strong mandate alongside the Lebanon border to disarm Hezbollah. Nonetheless, this didn’t materialize, and as an alternative, UN decision 1701 was adopted. This decision expanded the UN peacekeeping pressure within the south, however it stays largely toothless, missing the authority to disarm Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has not formally commented on these latest proposals.
