Two environmental activists allegedly kidnapped by the Philippine navy greater than two weeks in the past have been freed.
Jonila Castro, 21, and Jhed Tamano, 22, have been working with coastal communities against reclamation actions in Manila Bay after they disappeared on September 2 close to the capital Manila.
They have been launched late on Tuesday evening, hours after showing at a authorities press convention the place they went off script and accused the navy of abduction — expenses the authorities have repeatedly denied.
The Philippines is likely one of the most harmful nations on this planet for land and environmental defenders, with 11 activists killed in 2022, based on watchdog International Witness.
