South Africa has mentioned it would grant diplomatic immunity to officers going to the BRICS summit being held in Johannesberg in August.
BRICS is meant to strengthen ties between the nations that make it up – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Amongst those that might attend the August assembly is Russian President Vladimir Putin, who’s been accused by the Worldwide Legal Courtroom of struggle crimes, dedicated, they are saying, throughout Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
South Africa has refused to sentence Russia’s actions insisting it needs to stay impartial.
Underneath its present legal guidelines, South Africa is obliged to arrest Mr Putin if he arrives on its shores, as a result of it is a member of the ICC.
Nonetheless, a deputy minister within the South African presidency informed the BBC it is going to change the regulation to present South Africa the suitable to determine ‘who to arrest and who to not arrest’.
