To the editor: Halfway by means of your article on President-elect Donald Trump’s position on homelessness, you quoted the Trump-Vance transition spokesperson Karoline Leavitt:
“The American folks reelected President Trump by a convincing margin, giving him a mandate to implement the guarantees he made on the marketing campaign path, like reducing housing prices for all Individuals. He’ll ship.”
This stopped me in my tracks.
Trump was not “reelected by a convincing margin, giving him a mandate.” As vote tallies maintain coming in, it’s possible that Trump will find yourself with lower than 50% of the favored vote. Receiving lower than a majority doesn’t a mandate make.
Having printed this assertion, why didn’t you observe it up with the precise vote tally and a clarification of the phrase “mandate”?
