Former first minister Vaughan Gething has introduced he won’t be standing for re-election in 2026.
In July he stepped down from the highest job just four months after getting it.
Mr Gething had been embroiled in controversy since taking up in March, and was dogged by questions over a £200,000 campaign donation from a businessman convicted of environmental offences.
Now he has stated he has advised members of Cardiff and Penarth Labour get together he won’t stand once more.
The Senedd member for Cardiff South and Penarth stated: “As a Welshman born in Zambia it has been a terrific honour to serve within the Welsh authorities for over a decade.
“The chance to make a distinction alongside inspiring individuals and actions, decided to make change occur, is a particular privilege.
“One I’ll all the time be pleased about and pleased with.”
He stated he had spoken to First Minister Eluned Morgan to verify he wouldn’t be searching for a task in authorities and would assist her from the again benches.
