The Vatican has returned three fragments of the Parthenon sculptures to Greece in a transfer that has been described as a “gesture of friendship”.
The choice to return the two,500-year-old marbles was introduced by Pope Francis final 12 months.
Greece hopes the transfer will spur different abroad establishments that maintain Parthenon sculptures, together with the British Museum, to return them.
