Weekly preliminary jobless claims within the US spike increased after Hurricane Helene. Filings for the week ending Oct. 5 rose to 258,000, the best since August 2023. Many southeastern states affected by Helene noticed jumps in functions, together with Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee. Michael McKee experiences.
