The Safety Council has prolonged the mandate of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for one more 12 months, because the world’s youngest nation teeters getting ready to renewed battle.

Launched by the USA and supported by 11 different Council members, the decision prolonged the mandate of UNMISS till 30 April subsequent 12 months.

This motion follows a brief nine-day “technical rollover” approved by the Council on 30 April to permit extra time for negotiations.

Via the textual content – adopted on Thursday – the Security Council licensed the peacekeeping mission to “use all needed means” to implement its mandate – together with the safety of civilians, helping help supply, supporting implementation of the 2018 peace settlement, and investigating violations of worldwide regulation.

Three nations – China, Pakistan, and Russia – abstained.
