In March, Lesya and Valeriy, two volunteers in Ukraine’s civil defence forces, acquired married in a military-style ceremony at a checkpoint, days after Russia invaded Ukraine. Footage of their marriage ceremony went viral.
9 months later, Lesya has left the military though Valeriy continues to serve.
The couple have reunited in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv after Valeriy returned from responsibility to rejoice Christmas.
