120,000 RUSSIANS DISPLACED
At an Orthodox church within the centre of Sumy, the regional hub throughout the border from Kursk, dozens of mourners gathered Thursday to pay their remaining respects to 6 Ukrainian servicemen killed since Kyiv launched its offensive.
Tearful members of the family of the victims acquired a gradual stream of pals and kin sporting black and clutching wreaths because the priest intoned a funeral mass and incense hung within the air.
“It’s onerous to say goodbye to them, as a result of we wish them to reside without end, to reside amongst us as honoured sons of their homeland,” the priest advised mourners.
“Our process is to hope for our heroic fighters and their households.”
Pallbearers lifted the coffins one after the other for burial as a choir sang hymns in concord. Air raid sirens echoed over Sumy because the service ended.
In Kursk, AFP reporters noticed round 500 evacuees from border areas queueing for meals and garments being distributed by the Russian Pink Cross.
Russia says over 120,000 people have left or been evacuated.
