Protests within the West Asian nation of Turkiye continued for the sixth consecutive evening on Monday. Large clashes broke out between protesters and police within the nation’s largest metropolis, Istanbul, and the capital, Ankara. The protests have been sparked by the arrest of embattled Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who was formally arrested by a Turkish courtroom on Sunday over corruption costs. The detention of Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu has triggered the most important protests in Turkey in over a decade. Up to now, the police have arrested over a thousand protesters, inflicting chaos within the cities. On Monday alone, not less than 43 protesters have been arrested by the police.
