Rioting and ethnic clashes final week in India’s Manipur have killed no less than 62 folks and displaced 35,000, officers say, as a tense calm prevails throughout the distant northeastern state.
Manipur’s chief minister, N Biren Singh, informed reporters late on Monday that about 230 folks had been injured and 1,700 homes burned within the violence.
Fierce combating broke out in Manipur between members of about 30 tribal teams and a non-tribal group, the ethnic majority Meitei, over financial, instructional and political advantages prolonged to some tribes.
