Combating between the M23 rebels and authorities forces in DR Congo’s South Kivu province has compelled over 60,000 individuals to flee to neighboring Burundi. The worsening humanitarian disaster comes as Angola prepares to host direct peace talks between the Congolese authorities and M23 rebels subsequent week. Many displaced households are battling restricted entry to meals, water, and shelter, as assist teams warn of worsening situations in refugee camps.
