The College of Wisconsin-Parkside’s neighborhood backyard expanded considerably in 2024, supported by funding from the Fund for Lake Michigan. The grant enabled enhancements in stormwater administration, biodiversity, and meals safety initiatives.
New additions in 2024 included extra leasable plots, in addition to a compost bin, chilly body, fruit tree orchard, and Monarch Waystation-certified pollinator backyard, enhancing meals manufacturing capabilities whereas supporting campus ecological variety.
The grant created paid pupil positions, providing hands-on expertise in sustainable city agriculture and ecological restoration. Moreover, the Nice Lakes Group Conservation Corps’ Ag Veteran Program partnered with the backyard, offering coaching alternatives for army veterans in agribusiness.
The backyard reached a file harvest in 2024, producing 2,250 kilos of meals.
