President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has fled Sri Lanka in a army jet, amid mass protests over the island’s financial disaster.
The nation’s air drive confirmed the 73-year-old flew to the Maldives together with his spouse and two safety officers.
The president has appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as appearing president.
Mr Wickremesinghe declared a state of emergency and informed the army to revive order, as protesters stormed his workplace and demanded that he additionally resign.
