The launch of house shuttle Discovery is captured on this April 12, 1985, photograph. This mission, STS-51D, was the sixteenth flight of NASA’s House Shuttle program, and Discovery’s fourth flight.
Discovery carried out 39 missions, greater than every other house shuttle. Its missions included deploying and repairing the Hubble House Telescope and 13 flights to the Worldwide House Station – together with the very first docking in 1999. The retired shuttle now resides on the Nationwide Air and House Museum’s Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Middle in Virginia.
