    A Siberian cult chief who claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ was sentenced to 12 years in a Russian jail camp after his conviction for bodily and financially harming his followers.

    Sergei Torop, a former visitors policeman recognized to his followers as “Vissarion,” that means “he who offers new life,” and two aides used psychological stress to extract cash from his followers and trigger severe hurt to their psychological and bodily well being, Reuters reported. 

    Torop, 64, arrange the Church of the Final Testomony in a distant a part of Siberia’s Krasnoyarsk area in 1991, the 12 months the Soviet Union broke up.

    He was one among three males convicted Monday within the Siberian city of Novosibirsk. Torop and Vladimir Vedernikov have been sentenced to 12 years, and Vadim Redkin was sentenced to 11 years in a maximum-security jail camp.

    All three males have been arrested in 2020 in a helicopter raid that concerned the FSB safety service, the successor company to the Soviet KGB.

    A bearded self-styled mystic with lengthy hair, Torop claimed to have been “reborn” to convey the phrase of God. He attracted 1000’s of followers, a few of whom flocked to reside in a settlement generally known as the “Abode of Daybreak” or “Solar Metropolis” at a time when Russia was battling poverty and lawlessness, based on Reuters. 

    He advised his followers to not eat meat, smoke, drink alcohol or swear and to cease utilizing cash.

    Investigators mentioned the boys introduced “ethical hurt” to 16 folks, harm to the physical health of six folks and average harm to a different individual’s well being.
