    Polls have opened in Senegal’s parliamentary elections as President Bassirou Diomaye Faye goals for a convincing majority to see by means of the guarantees of bold reforms that swept him to energy eight months in the past.
    Greater than seven million of the nation’s 17 million persons are eligible to vote on Sunday to select members of the 165-seat Nationwide Meeting for a five-year time period. Polls opened at 8am (08:00 GMT) and can shut at 6pm (18:00 GMT).
    Faye secured victory in March pledging financial transformation, social justice and a battle in opposition to corruption – elevating hopes amongst a largely youthful inhabitants dealing with excessive inflation and widespread unemployment. He dissolved the Nationwide Meeting in September.
    Faye appointed his firebrand mentor Ousmane Sonko as prime minister after Sonko was barred from operating for president on account of defamation fees in opposition to him.
    The pair promised a left-wing pan-African agenda – promising to diversify political and financial partnerships, evaluation hydrocarbon and fishing contracts and re-establish Senegal’s sovereignty, which they alleged had been “bought overseas”.
