Russian President Vladimir Putin won’t attend the funeral of Mikhail Gorbachev, the Soviet Union’s final chief, the Kremlin has confirmed.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov mentioned Mr Putin’s “work schedule” wouldn’t allow him to attend the occasion on Saturday.
Russian media launched photos of Putin laying flowers subsequent to the open casket of Gorbachev at a hospital in Moscow on Thursday.
Gorbachev’s reforms helped finish the Chilly Battle, however noticed the demise of the Soviet Union, which Mr Putin has lamented.
