To the editor: What a victory for the great guys. U.S. District Decide David O. Carter has dominated that the U.S. Division of Veterans Affairs should honor its authorized obligation to make use of its West Los Angeles campus to serve veterans. (“VA must build more housing on West L.A. campus, and UCLA and Brentwood School leases are illegal, judge rules,” Sept. 6)
As a baby residing on the westside of L.A. within the Nineteen Fifties, I effectively keep in mind when my household drove by the campus and we’d see all of the frail veterans sitting outdoors. We understood this was the house for veterans who had no different place to dwell. It was not supposed as a web site for well-heeled educational services to function sports activities services, opposite to how the VA has allowed UCLA and a personal Ok-12 faculty to make use of a portion of the positioning through leases.
Now, with Carter’s resolution, the land will be returned to the aim for which it was donated.

To the editor: In 1965, UCLA completed building of Pauley Pavilion, the brand new house of its basketball program. It was constructed proper on prime of the place the baseball subject was once. The house for UCLA’s baseball workforce turned the sphere on the VA property as a result of directors claimed there was no house on campus.
Except UCLA miraculously discovers a spot to play baseball on campus, why can’t the three forces concerned on this dispute — the VA, UCLA and the decide — agree to save lots of Jackie Robinson Stadium and construct sufficient housing for veterans?
This could create a healthful attraction for the veterans to walk over and discover leisure. I consider UCLA could be completely happy to confess veterans to the video games freed from cost; we did it prior to now. Different occasions in addition to UCLA video games is also scheduled for veterans at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
As for the Brentwood College, I can’t argue for or in opposition to as a result of a lack of expertise, however I do consider it needs to be heard simply as a lot.

To the editor: Lastly and forcefully, a federal decide has labeled the VA what it’s — a shame, and for good measure he added bribery and corruption to his description of the federal company’s habits.
This was a scandal creating for years, enabled, as Decide Carter mentioned, by UCLA. How might outdoors pursuits attempt to revenue by exploiting veterans? Is there no moral code on the Brentwood College, UCLA and others? Vets have been sleeping in deplorable situations for years so they may play baseball?
Thanks, Decide Carter (a UCLA alumnus), for ending this despicable charade on the VA.

To the editor: Possibly Decide Carter must be reminded about UCLA Well being and its affiliation with the VA campus in West L.A. For years, UCLA medical doctors and specialists have supplied healthcare to veterans.
If that isn’t sufficient, perhaps UCLA will pay more cash for the usage of Jackie Robinson Stadium, and perhaps vets can use it as effectively. It could be extraordinarily costly to tear the stadium down, to not point out the importance of Jackie Robinson and his legacy.

To the editor: Carter is a hero. We want extra folks along with his spine in public service.
Possibly needy veterans — you realize, those we handed a rifle and despatched to warfare — will now get the total measure of advantages due them. God is aware of they earned the precise to that assist.
