A priest is being handled in hospital for a “severe head damage” after being hit with a bottle in Downpatrick.
He was attacked in St Patrick’s Church previous to a Mass service at about 10:10 BST on Sunday.
Police stated {that a} man walked into the church on St Patrick’s Avenue and hit the priest on his head with a bottle earlier than leaving.
In a press release on social media, Downpatrick Household Of Parishes stated: “Fr Murray is at present receiving medical therapy. We thanks to your prayers and properly needs.”
Det Ch Insp McBurney stated: “This was a totally surprising and brutal assault and has left the priest with a severe head damage.
“The sufferer was taken to hospital for therapy of head damage, the place he stays in a severe situation.”
