Police in the US have charged a 71-year-old man with homicide and hate crime for fatally stabbing a six-year-old boy and critically wounding his 32-year-old mom, alleging he singled out the victims due to their religion and as a response to the battle between Israel and Hamas.
“Detectives have been in a position to decide that each victims on this brutal assault have been focused by the suspect as a consequence of them being Muslim and the continued Center Jap battle involving Hamas and the Israelis,” the Will County Sheriff’s Workplace in suburban Chicago stated in an announcement on Sunday.
The Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) for the Chicago chapter recognized the victims as Wadea Al-Fayoume, a Palestinian-American boy who had not too long ago turned six, and his mom Hanaan Shahin.
A senior official of a Muslim American advocacy group has strongly denounced the assault of a Muslim household within the Chicago space that left a six-year-old boy useless.
“There’s no place for hatred for anyone,” Ahmed Rehab, the chief director of the the Chicago chapter of CAIR, stated in an interview with Al Jazeera.
“There’s no place for anti-Semitism in addition to Islamophobia” within the US, Rehab stated.
In line with the post-mortem report, Wadea was stabbed 26 occasions by the 71-year-old perpetrator, who’s now dealing with two hate crime prices, Rehab stated. Police alleged that the killer was motivated to hold out the assault after listening to studies of the battle between Israel and Hamas.
