Spain’s Raul Fernandez secured his first win in MotoGP with victory on the Australian Grand Prix.
The 24-year-old Trackhouse rider completed high of the rostrum after he handed the chequered flag 1.418 seconds away from VR46 Ducati’s Fabio di Giannantonio.
Fernandez’s Aprilia stablemate Marco Bezzecchi, who received the 13-lap dash on Saturday, was third.
Fernandez had pulled clear by lap 10 and constructed on the lead because the race progressed with an anticipated counter-attack from Bezzecchi, who needed to serve two lengthy lap penalties, failing to materialise.
World champion Marc Marquez, who won his seventh MotoGP title in Japan final month, missed the race by damage.
Marquez was involved in a crash with Bezzecchi in Indonesia and has had shoulder surgical procedure, which is more likely to preserve him out of motion for as much as 16 weeks.
