Philippines Nobel laureate Maria Ressa and her information website Rappler have been acquitted on costs of tax evasion.
In what’s being considered as a major authorized victory for the journalist, a court docket dominated that Ressa had not prevented paying taxes on the sale of shares in Rappler to international traders.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte had waged a marketing campaign in opposition to Rappler, calling it a “pretend information outlet” sponsored by “American spies”.
