An historical sarcophagus which was looted from Egypt by an artwork trafficking community has been returned to its homeland.
The two.9m (9.5ft) lengthy “Inexperienced Coffin” pre-dates Christ, and belonged to a priest referred to as Ankhenmaat.
It was smuggled by way of Germany into the US in 2008, earlier than a collector loaned it to the Houston Museum of Pure Science in 2013.
However now, after an investigation which spanned a number of years, the sarcophagus has been repatriated, with US diplomats handing over the artefact at a ceremony in Cairo.
