Millersville College’s Division of Artwork & Design welcomes alumnus Jesse Krimes ’08, because the 2025 Conrad Nelson Artist. His work, which has been exhibited on the Metropolitan Museum of Artwork, examines techniques of energy and management, specializing in felony and racial justice. Throughout a six-year jail sentence, he produced and smuggled out quite a few artwork items, based artwork packages, and co-created artist collectives.
The Conrad Nelson Lecture is scheduled for Thursday, April 3, at 7 p.m. within the Winter Visible & Performing Arts Middle on campus. It’s free and open to the general public.
Krimes is the founder and director of the Middle for Artwork & Advocacy, the primary nationwide group devoted to supporting creatives impacted by the justice system. Krimes additionally led a profitable class-action lawsuit in opposition to JPMorgan Chase, difficult predatory charges imposed on previously incarcerated people.

Krimes earned an Emmy Award for his documentary “Artwork and Krimes by Krimes.” His artwork has been exhibited at main establishments, together with MoMA PS1, Palais de Tokyo, the Philadelphia Museum of Artwork, and the Worldwide Pink Cross Museum. He was awarded fellowships from the Guggenheim Basis, Pew Analysis Middle, Rauschenberg Basis, Artistic Capital, the Mellon Basis, and the Artwork for Justice Fund. His work is within the Metropolitan Museum of Artwork, Brooklyn Museum, Kadist Basis, Bunker Artspace, and the Agnes Gund Assortment collections. He’s represented by Jack Shainman Gallery in New York.
The Conrad Nelson Artist-In-Residence Fellowship, established in 2000 by MU alumnus Conrad Nelson, hosts achieved visible artists working in varied media, shows and describes their works, provides public lectures on points within the arts, and interacts with college students, college, and different members of the larger Millersville group.
