WANA (Sep 29) – Iran has formally objected to the UN Secretariat’s transfer to inform member states in regards to the so-called “reimposition of terminated resolutions” in opposition to the Islamic Republic.
In a letter, Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Everlasting Consultant to the United Nations, addressed UN Secretary-Normal António Guterres and the President of the Safety Council, denouncing the motion as “legally baseless, opposite to the UN Constitution, and an indication of clear bias by the Secretariat.”
Iravani pressured that Safety Council Decision 2231 grants no authority to the Secretary-Normal or the Secretariat to declare or notify member states about any “reapplication of terminated resolutions,” noting that such issues fall solely throughout the Council’s jurisdiction. He recalled that in 2020, when the USA tried to set off the so-called “snapback” mechanism, divisions throughout the Safety Council prevented the Secretariat from taking any unilateral administrative step.

The envoy warned that the Secretariat’s newest transfer, notably after the Safety Council failed to achieve consensus at its September 19 session, quantities to siding with the U.S. and three European states, in violation of Article 100 of the UN Constitution, which requires Secretariat officers to take care of independence and impartiality.
“This conduct undermines the Secretariat’s credibility, erodes member states’ belief, and units a harmful precedent of politicizing its function,” Iravani wrote, insisting that Iran considers the step “null and void, devoid of any authorized foundation, and in direct contradiction with the Constitution.” He urged instant corrective measures and ensures to stop additional interference of this sort.
The Iranian consultant requested that his letter be circulated as an official doc of the UN Safety Council.
