New York Metropolis Comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander was detained Tuesday by Immigration and Customs Enforcement brokers as he was escorting a defendant out of immigration courtroom, his spouse stated in an announcement.
“Whereas escorting a defendant out of immigration courtroom at 26 Federal Plaza, Brad was taken by masked brokers and detained by ICE,” Lander’s spouse, Meg Barnette, wrote on X.
“That is nonetheless creating, and our crew is monitoring the scenario intently,” Barnette wrote.
ICE didn’t instantly reply to CNBC’s request for remark.
Video of the incident reveals Lander standing outdoors a courtroom when he’s approached by officers carrying masks.
Lander repeatedly asks the officers to point out him a judicial warrant earlier than he’s handcuffed, per the video posted by Barnette.
The incident comes days after police handcuffed Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., after he was forcibly faraway from a press convention that Division of Homeland Safety Secretary Kristi Noem was holding in Los Angeles.
