To the editor: I learn your article on “closed colonies” of cats and dogs used as full-time blood donors with nice curiosity and higher horror. I used to be struck by each the shortage of empathy for the animals in captivity and the tragic penalties {that a} lack of obtainable blood throughout surgical procedure has on a pet (they’d absolutely die).
What makes the lives of canines or cats “fortunate” sufficient to be pets extra precious than the lives of canines and cats who’re caged and drained of a few of their blood each three weeks? We appear to neglect that these canines and cats may be pets had been they not born into the distress of a blood financial institution facility.
I hope God seems to be a canine.

To the editor: About 40 years in the past, I went to a veterinarian in West L.A. who I thought of sort. In the future, I walked by a again room to get my cat, and I noticed a black cat on high of a field in a naked room.
My “sort” vet stated he was there to provide blood — completely there, a prisoner. He was not going house that night time and lived his empty life alone like that.
People make the most of all different species; it’s simply endless. These blood-donor animals are in jail for all times with no house or household, and it may all be completely different. There may simply be a system for members of the general public to donate their pets’ blood on a schedule.
There isn’t a such factor as a vital evil. It’s merely profiting from different creatures.

To the editor: Let’s cease with the euphemisms. The animals usually are not blood donors. They’re canines from whom blood is taken
