A word from Wild Card host Rachel Martin: Orville Peck is filled with obvious contradictions. As a child rising up in South Africa, he went from dancing ballet to enjoying drums in a punk band. He loves musical theater however made a reputation for himself as a rustic singer. Loads of his songs are about vulnerability however he covers his face with a masks.
These contradictions are all a part of the Peck thriller. He retains quite a lot of his life below wraps — even his actual title (which isn’t Orville Peck). Maybe for this reason his voice feels so singular to me. It’s so stunning and filled with longing, and it is all of the extra highly effective as a result of I haven’t got the complete context of the artist himself. However I need not know Orville Peck’s actual title or what his cheekbones appear to be as a result of his total soul comes out by way of his music.
