Microbes residing beneath Antarctica’s ice sheet might survive on methane generated by geothermal warmth rising from deep under Earth’s floor. The invention may have implications for assessing the potential for all times to outlive on icy worlds past Earth.
“These might be hotspots for microbes which are tailored to stay in these areas,” says Gavin Piccione at Brown College in Rhode Island.
