    In its newest authorized problem, the Division of Homeland Safety has subpoenaed California’s money help program for immigrants. It’s demanding a slew of data from Los Angeles County to find out if people in america illegally acquired funds stemming from the Social Safety Administration, courting again to 2021.

    • Applicant’s Title and Date of Beginning
    • Copies of Purposes
    • Immigration Standing
    • Proof of Ineligibility for SSI from the Social Safety Administration
    • Affidavits in Help of the Utility

    Recipients of Los Angeles County’s CAPI program must be non-citizens who’ve been lawfully admitted into the U.S., paroled, granted conditional entry, or whose removing has been withheld. Candidates embrace Afghan and Ukrainian humanitarian parolees. In keeping with Los Angeles County’s website, the funds are designed for recipients who’re ages 65 or over, blind, or disabled. 

    In keeping with the Division of Homeland Safety, “greater than 2 million ineligible unlawful aliens acquired a Social Safety Quantity in fiscal 12 months 2024 alone.” 

    The Public Coverage Institute of California estimates that about 1.1 million people receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or State Supplementary Payment (SSP) monthly grants, with simply over half of all funds granted to these 65 years and older. That quantity contains about 15,000 authorized residents who don’t meet extra non-citizen standards for social safety funds. 

    Final month, President Trump issued an executive order aimed toward curbing incentives for people dwelling illegally in america. The memo directs the secretary of Homeland Safety to work with the secretaries of Labor and Well being and Human Companies, the commissioner of the Social Safety Administration, and the U.S. lawyer normal, “to make sure ineligible unlawful aliens don’t obtain funds from Social Safety applications and prioritize civil or felony enforcement in opposition to states or localities for potential violations” of federal law. 

    In an announcement, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem accused “radical left politicians in California” of prioritizing migrants within the U.S. over Americans by “giving unlawful aliens entry to money advantages.” Noem vowed that the Trump Administration is working to “determine abuse and exploitation of public advantages and ensure these on this nation illegally will not be receiving federal advantages or different monetary incentives to remain illegally.” 

    “If you’re an unlawful immigrant, it’s best to depart now,” Noem stated. “The gravy prepare is over. Whereas this subpoena focuses solely on Los Angeles County – it’s only the start.”
