Helen Hunt revealed that she initially refused to think about a Mad About You reboot. The actress who co-starred with Paul Reiser on the NBC sitcom from 1992 to 1999, told Collider in a brand new interview that when she was approached a couple of revival of the sequence, she turned the thought down flat.

“We have been one hundred pc positive we might by no means do a reboot,” Hunt, 62, instructed the outlet. “It appeared like a extremely tacky factor to do, and we’d answered the whole lot, and we regarded down on them.”

Hunt admitted that when she noticed the Will & Grace revival in 2017, she modified her tune. “I used to be like, it’s actually good and it’s actually humorous. Are we possibly silly and will give it some thought?” she recalled.

Twenty years after Mad About You ended its authentic seven-season run, Hunt and Reiser reprised their roles as New York Metropolis couple Jamie and Paul Buchman for a 12-episode revival on Spectrum Originals. The restricted sequence featured the couple as empty nesters after their daughter Mabel (Abby Quinn) went to school. Hunt instructed Collider that the revival mirrored what she and Reiser have been going via in actual life.

“My daughter was on the point of go to school, and his son was on the point of go to school, and we went, ‘Oh, it might be about empty nests,’” she mentioned. “Once we realized, ‘Oh, empty nests could be a extremely enjoyable factor to look at these two pinheads undergo,’ we began getting excited.”

‘Mad About You’ Initially Ended With the Intention That There Would By no means Be a Reboot

When Mad About You ended its authentic run in 1999, the Buchmans’ toddler daughter Mabel was all of a sudden 23 years previous. The sequence finale featured a flash ahead of the grownup Mabel (Janeane Garofalo) as she described the household’s subsequent 20 years by way of flashbacks.

Reiser beforehand revealed that the flash-forward finale was supposed to wrap up the characters’ storylines for good, so there could be no must ever return to the sequence.

“One of many issues we did intentionally within the finale was that we jumped forward sooner or later. We noticed the place they went,” Reiser told Variety in 2016. “A part of why we did that was to keep away from the temptation of going again…Once you watch a reunion (present), all you do is say, ‘Wow, do they appear older.’”
