God Has No Cause to Forgive You – If You Do not Forgive Others! | Jonathan Pageau
We Can’t Cling to Bitterness and God
“Forgiveness. Even the phrase could make us bristle. Previous wounds instinctively spring to thoughts, making forgiveness really feel unattainable (or no less than unnatural). What feels pure is dwelling on the horrible issues that others have performed to us, rehearsing their wrongs and plotting our retaliation, if solely in our creativeness.
I do know. I’ve nursed my anger as I’ve lingered over the methods folks have damage me. A detailed pal who ended our long-standing relationship over a misunderstanding. A girl whom I mentored for years who slandered me to others. My husband who unexpectedly left me for another person. The physician whose careless mistake ended my son’s life.
“We can not maintain on to bitterness and maintain on to God.”
I keep in mind sitting in a counselor’s workplace, speaking a few deep betrayal. When the counselor talked about forgiveness, I used to be livid. It felt like he was suggesting I provide that individual a “get out of jail free” card, which was unthinkable in any case I had suffered. Simply listening to the phrase made me indignant. Why ought to I forgive? Particularly when the individual didn’t even appear sorry.
However as my counselor unpacked the biblical rules of forgiveness, I couldn’t ignore his phrases. I noticed I had not totally understood what forgiveness was — and what it was not.
