‘Goat meat, not dog head’: Mohali momo factory mystery ‘solved’

What was initially suspected to be a severed canine head, throughout a raid at a momo-producing manufacturing unit in Mohali’s Mataur on March 17, has now been declared a part of a goat by the district animal husbandry division.

The controversial discovery, made within the severely unhygienic kitchen of the manufacturing unit, had despatched shock waves by the nation amid issues about meals security and animal cruelty.

The manufacturing unit house owners, Arzudeen and Joginderpal Singh, who stay at massive, had been booked for spreading an infection and adulteration two days after the raid on the criticism of a meals security officer (FSO), with motion underneath animal cruelty fees remaining, pending verification.

Now, after the animal husbandry division’s findings, the potential case of animal cruelty appears to have been successfully “wrapped up”, with focus shifting to meals security violations on the unhygienic manufacturing unit.

In a press release launched on Saturday, Mohali deputy commissioner Komal Mittal confirmed that the March 17 inspection revealed extreme violations of hygiene and sanitation requirements. Together with meals samples, a “piece of flesh” was recovered and despatched for examination to senior veterinary officers. The division’s consultants recognized it as goat meat, with the piece measuring 10 inches by 6 inches and weighing about half a kilogram.

Deputy director, animal husbandry, Mohali, within the report acknowledged that spine was seen within the flesh piece, which after evaluation appears to be both of buck goat (male goat) or doe goat (feminine goat).

Nonetheless, doubts have been raised by Ravi Arora, the whistle-blower within the case, who questioned the findings of the animal husbandry division.

“We clicked pictures and movies of the flesh recovered from the spot. Everybody current suspected it to be the severed head of a pug canine or a cat moderately than a goat,” Arora mentioned.
