The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Images Awards spotlight the world’s funniest animal photographs. Shutterbugs Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam co-founded the competition in 2015. Pictures that seem to indicate animals taking part in devices, trying gymnastics, or enterprise different human actions are humorous. Joynson-Hicks realized his animal photographs might create empathy for animals by giving them human traits. The system is named anthropomorphism.
Image takers submitted greater than 9,000 photographs to Nikon’s 2024 contest. High prize went to Milko Marchetti. His photograph’s title is “Caught Squirrel.” The picture exhibits the hind toes of a pink squirrel protruding from a tree trunk. “I’ve taken many, many images of squirrels,” Marchetti says. “However this one struck me as actually humorous . . . as a result of it’s that precise second when the squirrel is detaching its again legs from the trunk to enter its [nest].”
Nikon Europe’s Stefan Maier says Nikon hopes to encourage future wildlife photographers. A nature lover, Marchetti calls it a “superpower to freeze a second and make it final ceaselessly.”
