200 Palestinian prisoners have been launched from Israeli jails on Saturday as a part of the Gaza ceasefire settlement between Hamas and Israel. Many had been serving prolonged sentences, together with life imprisonment. Amongst them was Mohammed Omar Zayed, who reunited together with his household after 20 years in jail. His son Abdallah, born throughout his imprisonment, grew up seeing solely photographs of his father. Whereas Mohammed’s launch brings pleasure, it’s bittersweet, as his mom handed away earlier than witnessing his freedom. Although he cherishes reuniting with family members, the trauma of imprisonment lingers, and fears of re-arrest persist. His story displays the struggles of many Palestinians launched in prisoner exchanges, balancing hope with the scars of occupation.
