Torrential rains have brought on extreme flooding in Jakarta and close by areas, submerging neighbourhoods and displacing hundreds. Many residents have taken refuge on rooftops, ready for rescue as emergency crews deploy rubber boats. Some have resorted to swimming by contaminated waters to achieve security. Authorities report over a thousand affected houses and have arrange non permanent shelters. Officers say this may very well be the worst flooding since 2020, which left 60 useless.
