A hearth at a London lodge housing asylum seekers is being handled as a hate crime and has been condemned as a “despicable and cowardly assault”.
The blaze on the Thistle Metropolis Barbican Lodge, in Dingley Highway, Islington, occurred at about 22:50 BST on Wednesday, in keeping with the Met Police. No-one was harm and employees put out the flames earlier than officers arrived.
