Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr mentioned the US central financial institution is exploring tying liquidity to uninsured deposits in an effort to protect these deposits with out having the federal government instantly assure them. “It’s important that uninsured depositors believe that their funds will probably be available for withdrawal, if wanted, and this confidence could be enhanced by a requirement that bigger banks have available liquidity to satisfy requests for withdrawal of those deposits,” Barr mentioned at a New York Fed occasion Thursday.
