The Worldwide Whaling Organisation has issued its first-ever extinction alert over the critically endangered vaquita porpoise.
The organisation says there are solely round 10 of the marine mammals left.
The porpoises, discovered solely within the Gulf of California in Mexico, have been pushed to extinction on account of entanglement in fishing nets generally known as “gillnets.”
