The West African bloc ECOWAS has activated a standby navy drive, after holding an emergency assembly to debate the coup in Niger.
However leaders emphasised that diplomacy is the popular approach to restore the civilian authorities.
They condemned the detention of President Mohamed Bazoum, who was ousted two weeks in the past.
