What does it take to maintain the financial system secure?
That may be a query that Jerome Powell considers day by day in his position as Chair of the Federal Reserve. It is also a job that’s meant to be carried out impartial of politics.
Nevertheless, Powell’s title has been making headlines, following a sequence of feedback made by President Trump attacking Powell, after he warned that the President’s aggressive tariff insurance policies might harm the financial system.
President Trump has been threatening to fireplace Powell, one thing he backed away from Tuesday afternoon.
As NPR’s Scott Horsley experiences, all that is additional rattling monetary markets, making Jerome Powell’s activity of protecting the financial system secure even tougher to do.
