A four-year-old boy has died after a headstone fell on him at a cemetery, police have mentioned.
The boy was fatally injured at Rawtenstall Cemetery in Burnley Street, Haslingden, at 13:00 BST on Saturday, Lancashire Police mentioned.
Paramedics tried to save lots of him however “tragically” the boy died within the “devastating” incident, a pressure spokesman mentioned.
He added the loss of life was not being handled as suspicious and a file can be despatched to the coroner “in the end”.
The police spokesman mentioned officers had been referred to as to the cemetery “following studies a headstone had fallen on to a toddler”.
He added: “Tragically, and regardless of the perfect efforts of the emergency companies, the boy sadly died.
“Our ideas are together with his family members at this devastating time.”
Andy MacNae, Labour MP for Rossendale and Darwen, mentioned his ideas went out to the household and everybody affected by the “tragic incident”.
Native councillor Liz McInnes mentioned the entire space was “grieving”.
She added: “It is a horrible tragedy. My heartfelt and deepest sympathies to the household of this poor boy.”
