On the Jubilee of Sport in mid-June, the Augustinianum Institute in Rome will host a global convention to discover the Church’s need to assist the “Momentum of Hope” provided by sport.

The Jubilee of Sport is scheduled for June 14-15 and can open with a global convention, entitled “The Momentum of Hope.”
Organized by the Dicastery for Tradition and Schooling, the convention will probably be held on the Augustinian Patristic Pontifical Institute, close to St. Peter’s Sq..
Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça, the Dicastery’s Prefect, and Thomas Bach, President of the Worldwide Olympic Committee, will ship the opening remarks.
Afterward, 4 athletes will share their testimonials “from the sphere.”
– Sergio Conceição, from Portugal, present coach of AC Milan and former participant for Porto, Lazio, Parma, and Inter, in addition to a member of his nationwide group;
– Letsile Tebogo, a 22-year-old Olympic 200m champion on the Paris 2024 Video games, from Botswana. On August 29, 2024, he met Pope Francis and shared the reminiscence of his mom, who died of most cancers;
– Valentina Vezzali, one of many biggest fencers in historical past, with 9 Olympic medals (six gold) and 26 World Championship medals (sixteen gold);
– Amelio Castro Grueso, a fencer who competed with the Paralympic Refugee Staff on the Paris Video games. Born in Colombia, his mom was killed when he was 16, and he later misplaced using his legs in a street accident and located redemption in life via sport—and above all via religion.
Different presenters on the convention will embody Giampaolo Mattei, President of Athletica Vaticana; the Spanish priest and 2012 Olympic hockey participant Litus Ballbé Sala; Paola Gigliotti (Sentiero Frassati); the Salesian sister Francesca Scialbetta; and the photographer Giovanni Zenoni.
The occasion will probably be moderated by Novella Calligaris, a journalist for the Italian information outlet Rai Information 24 and swimming star, and Alessandro Gisotti, Deputy Editorial Director of the Dicastery for Communication.
