    Sinn Féin MP for Newry and Armagh Dáire Hughes says the incident, on the Toby Jug pub, was “disgraceful”

    The MP for Newry and Armagh has described an assault on a pub in Armagh on Monday night as “brazen and disgraceful”.

    A person has been arrested on suspicion of tried homicide after The Toby Jug pub was set alight at about 20:55 BST on Monday.

    Firefighters put out the blaze and two individuals had been taken to Craigavon Space Hospital, the Northern Eire Ambulance Service stated.

    The arrested man, who’s 38, was additionally detained on suspicion of arson with intent to hazard life.

    Sinn Féin MP for Newry and Armagh, Dáire Hughes informed BBC Information NI that this was a “brazen and disgraceful assault in relative broad daylight”.

    “I am certain the individuals within the pub and surrounding areas had been terrified.”

    “The truth that the hearth service and PSNI acted so promptly ought to give a point of consolation to the group,” he added.

    In CCTV footage posted on social media a person may be seen strolling alongside Irish Avenue with a plastic bag.

    He takes what seems to be a petroleum bomb out of it, walks throughout the highway in direction of the bar and lights it earlier than strolling in.

    He’s then seen leaving the premises with out it.

    When individuals, together with a girl and a younger lady, then run out of the pub the person pulls what seems to be a knife from his pocket, earlier than turning and strolling away.

    Breege Shaw has lived on Irish Avenue for 30 years.

    After coming residence from a gathering in Newry she noticed the aftermath of the incident.

    She informed BBC Information NI that there have been two fireplace engines and police cordoned off the road at St Malachy’s church.

    “I did not know what was taking place. On the time the police simply stated it was a hearth. However it’s simply very unhappy as a result of it is a pretty road to reside in.”

    The highway had been closed however has since reopened

    Justin McNulty is the SDLP Member of the Legislative Meeting (MLA) for Newry and Armagh.

    He informed BBC Information NI that the incident was “stunning” and “horrific”.

    “Individuals are scared and for ladies and kids to have needed to flee within the method they did is horrendous.”
