The Department of Art & Design within the College of the Arts and the Department of Biology within the College of Science and Mathematics proudly current The Artwork of Neuroscience & the Mind, an interdisciplinary occasion that brings collectively college and college students to discover the connections between creative expression and neurological analysis. This collaboration is a part of the college’s month-long collection of occasions happening from March 5–19, 2025.
Constructing upon previous initiatives, this 12 months’s occasion continues a groundbreaking collaboration between the Division of Artwork & Design and the Division of Biology. Impressed by the scientific analysis of Dr. Thomas Mueller, this partnership bridges the hole between neuroscience and the visible arts, providing a dynamic platform for artistic inquiry.

This exhibition builds upon the Zebrafish and the Artwork of Concern: A Artistic Inquiry into Reminiscence and Emotion undertaking, an interdisciplinary printmaking collaboration exploring how worry and nervousness are saved within the recollections of zebrafish brains and their relation to the human mind. College students from Illustration, Visible Communication Design, Visible Arts, and Artwork Training labored alongside college to translate neuroscience ideas into visible kind. The undertaking, which was supported by a Nationwide Science Basis grant and Montclair State College, resulted in over 100 prints, a few of which have been beforehand exhibited on the Mid-America Print Council Convention and the Kistler Museum of Artwork at Kansas State College in Fall 2024.

Zebrafish Animation Mission
Science Foyer, Reid Corridor
A particular Zebrafish Animation Projection can be on show within the Science Foyer of Reid Corridor, providing a mesmerizing visible interpretation of Dr. Mueller’s analysis on zebrafish cognition and emotion. Created via interdisciplinary collaboration, this projection bridges scientific imaging strategies with creative animation, bringing neuroscience to life via movement and colour.
By way of this ongoing Artwork & Science collaboration, college students and school have interaction in a novel dialogue between scientific discovery and creative expression. As Professor Cathy Bebout states:
“This undertaking makes use of artwork and science as a educating device, fostering dialogue and studying between disciplines whereas demonstrating the humanities’ energy to drive engagement and social change.”
This initiative highlights the facility of interdisciplinary exploration, sparking creativity, innovation, and a deeper understanding of each fields. College students not solely broaden their creative expertise but additionally acquire worthwhile insights into neuroscience, paving the way in which for future collaborations at Montclair State College.
